The system, comprising an exhaust gas recycling circuit (3) with a valve (5) operated by a control unit (6), has a circuit cleaning phase actuated by the control unit when the engine (1) is in a predetermined operating mode to allow the elimination of deposits in the circuit by heat. The circuit also has a cooler (4) for the recycled gases, and the cleaning phase actuator measures the drop in the cooler's load, the temperature of the gases entering and leaving it, the distance covered by the vehicle and the duration of the engine's operation. The cleaning phase can include the injection of a fuel additive that reduces the deposits' combustion temperature and/or the injection of fuel into certain cylinders during the expansion phase to increase the temperature of exhaust gases. |
