PURPOSE: A method for automatically switching an optical disk video display is provided to output a play-ready signal to a connection apparatus such as a TV set, and to automatically switch into an outer input mode according to the play ready signal in the connection apparatus, thereby automatically displaying videos played from an optical disk. CONSTITUTION: When a DVD is inserted(S10), a microcomputer reads navigation information to perform a series of downloading processes(S11). If disk menu information recorded in a specific recording position of the DVD is read(S13), the microcomputer generates a play-ready signal to transmit the play ready signal to a television(S14). The microcomputer generates a disk menu video relative to the disk menu information, and transmits the generated disk menu video to the television(S15). If a user selects a desired menu, the microcomputer decides that a play operation relative to the menu is requested(S16). The microcomputer carries out a series of play operations(S17).
