PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for regularly releasing an active substance. SOLUTION: The device for releasing at least one active substance into a fluid medium by dissolution comprises one, which is impermeable to the active substance and the fluid, having at least one aperture therein and defining a shaped cavity filled by a shaped core comprising the active substance, wherein, on exposure of the device to the fluid medium, the surface area of the exposed surface remains substantially constant over at least 50% of the total dissolution time, or the aperture is peripherally disposed so that the release surface of the core exposed through the aperture is substantially cylindrical or a part of a cylinder in shape.
