PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toothbrush which improves cleaning property for areas of which the plaque control is hard to perform without sacrificing the original basic functions of a toothbrush, such as durability, rigidity and the cleaning property for the smooth surfaces of tooth crowns, and which can increase the plaque removing rate. SOLUTION: For this toothbrush, brush bristles are constituted of a monofilament which is a filament made of a synthetic resin containing 60 wt.% or more of a polybutyleneterephthalate, and 10 to 40 wt.% of a resin other than the polybutyleneterephthalate as the major components, and has a lower elasticity than that of a monofilament made of the polybutyleneterephthalate. Then, the toothbrush has a tapered part 41 in which a range 2.5 mm to 3 mm from the filament end T is formed to be thinner toward the end T. Then, respective diameters a, b and c at areas being 0.5 mm, 1 mm and 2 mm from the end T are set to be 40 to 70%, 75 to 90%, and 90 to 95% based on a diameter d of an area 42 other than the tapered part.
