The invention relates to a method for detecting longitudinal and transversal acceleration of a vehicle. At least two sensors determine acceleration components which are orientated in an essentially perpendicular manner in relation to each other. Said method is characterised in that the acceleration components have an angle of between 10 DEG C and 80 DEG C in relation to the longitudinal direction of displacement of the vehicle. The invention also relates to a device which is suitable for carrying out said method.
