摘要
719,048. Endless-track vehicles. HARTMANN, K. A. Jan. 28, 1953 [Feb. 1, 1952; April 19, 1952], No. 2421/53. Classes 79(1) and 79(5) [Also in Groups XXXII and XXXIV] In an invalid chair or like vehicle adapted to be wheeled up and down stairs and having on each side a set of three or more wheels 13, mounted in arms 12, secured in starlike formation to a common horizontal main shaft 10 in such manner that the wheels of the two sets are coaxial in pairs, the main shaft 10 is coupled to a motor 8, preferably an electromotor, by means of a coupling, which is so arranged that the main shaft 10 is automatically locked when the motor 8 is stopped so that one or two of the pairs of wheels 13 may serve as running wheels when running upon a plane surface. In the arrangement shown the motor 8 which is coupled to the shaft 10 through a gearing 9 which is self locking, is controlled by a switch. 14 for energizing the motor and by a switch 29 for reversing the motor for movements of the chair up and downstairs respectively. The switch 14 which is operated to energize the motor when a vertically slidable handle 15 is pulled to the upper position in movement of the chair up or down stairs. is connected through a rod 21 to a projection 20 on a shaft 19 rotatably mounted on the back of the chair, and a spring 22 is connected between the projection 20 and a fixed part of the chair to normally maintain the switch in open position and to urge a stop 23 on the shaft 19 into engagement with the back of the chair, arms 24 secured to the ends of the shaft 19 engaging projections 18 on the handle, to rotate the shaft 19, as the handle is pulled to the upper position. When the handle is returned to the position shown in Fig. 2, the spring 22 returns the shaft 19 to the position in which it opens the switch 14 to stop the motor 8. Simultaneously the shaft 10 is locked through the self locking gearing 9. The shaft 19 is interconnected through a rod 26 with a shaft 25, rotatably mounted on the back of the chair and having a pair of support legs 27, 27 which in the raised position of the handle 15, corresponding to movement up or down stairs engage the shaft 19, but which, should the handle be lowered during the movement up or down the stairs, project outwardly to engage the stairs and prevent the chair rocking backwards. The spring 22 may be secured to the shaft 25 as shown. The wheel carrying arms 12 are bifurcated and the inner prongs of the arms are interconnected by an endless flexible band 31. The wheels 13 are automatically braked by a brake mechanism (see Group XXXIV) when the chair is adjusted to wheeling up or down stairs. A handwheel or the like may be provided on the motor side of the gearing 9. to effect adjustment of the chair relative to the shaft 10.
