PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel low loss ultra-violet transmission fiber which is almost free from deterioration due to ultraviolet ray and absorption loss of ultraviolet laser beam, and to provide an ultraviolet irradiation apparatus using the same. SOLUTION: The ultraviolet ray transmission fiber 1 propagates ultraviolet laser beams which are made incident from an incident end 2a, are made outgoing from an outgoing end 2b and is provided with a communication hole 3 which communicates the incident end 2a and the outgoing end 2b nearly on an axial center part of the glass fiber 2 consisting of synthetic quartz glass with OH group content≤1,000ppb. Thereby, the deterioration due to ultraviolet ray and the attenuation/absorption loss of optical power disappears almost completely and ultraviolet laser beams can be efficiently propagated.
