PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning line interpolator capable of performing good scanning line interpolation even for a so-called thin line having a narrow width without causing the cutting, blurring or staggering of a border line. SOLUTION: While centering on the position of an interpolation pixel on an interpolation scanning line, two sets or more of first pair of pixels located point-symmetrically on a scanning line adjacent to the interpolation scanning line are selected. Pixels adjacent to the pixels in the first pair of pixels in the direction perpendicular to the scanning line are selected as second pair of pixels in the same direction as a line connecting the pixels in the first pair of pixels. Based on the signal of a pixel in the first pair of pixels and the signal of a pixel in the second pair of pixels, the signal of the interpolation pixel is determined and the interpolation scanning line is created.
