PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which realizes high light transmittance even if driving voltage is low. SOLUTION: Data write scanning operations are successively performed twice and then data erasure scanning operations are successively performed twice in each sub frame. Applied voltage in the data write scanning operation and applied voltage in the data erasure scanning operation have substantially the same magnitude and polarities reverse to each other. Cell charge is reduced and responsiveness of a liquid crystal is lowered after the liquid crystal responds by the first voltage application, however charge according to applied voltage is stored again in the liquid crystal cell by the second voltage application of the same polarity and the liquid crystal responds again. Display having the number of gradations larger than the number of output gradations of a driver is realized in accordance with combination of multitudes of voltage applied a plurality of times to the liquid crystal in each sub frame.
