PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image transmission system permitting multi-bit transmission easily. SOLUTION: When a HPD part 131 detects that the ports 105, 106 on 1st and 2nd monitors of a display are connected to 1st and 2nd cables, respectively, a host side microcomputer 102 of an image display board sends via a HPD line a transmission-enabled signal presenting that divided image signals can be transmitted. A monitor side microcomputer 107 of the display that has received the transmission-enabled signal sets the number of bits of the image signals to be received via the ports 105, 106 on the 1st and 2nd monitors, and sends via the HPD line a receiving-enabled signal representing that the divided image signals can be received. Receiving the receiving-enabled signal, the host side microcomputer 102 transmits the divided image signals via the 1st and 2nd cables 109, 110.
