PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring method capable of providing extremely accurate data on the amount of components discharged from a gaseous atmosphere and absorbed in a workpiece even during the progress of a treatment process. SOLUTION: This invention is a method of measuring the amount of components discharged from the gaseous atmosphere at thermochemical treatment on a metal workpiece. A test specimen having a longitudinal length of extension considerably exceeding a traverse length of extension is exposed to the action of the gaseous atmosphere. Changes in the longitudinal length of the test specimen with the passage of time caused as the result of the absorption of the components discharged from the gaseous atmosphere are measured. The measured changes in length are further used for grasping the amount of the components transferred from the gaseous atmosphere into the test body. The method for measuring the amount of the components discharged from the gaseous atmosphere surrounding the workpiece and absorbed by the workpiece at thermochemical treatment on the metal workpiece is proposed.
