PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antitumor agent and a pharmacological composition of anticancer activity that shows an effective antitumor activity in vivo and is safe for living bodies. SOLUTION: This medicine is an antitumor agent and a pharmacological composition of antitumor activity containing a pyrvinium compound, particularly pyrvinium pamoate. The active ingredient has a chemical structure of 6-dimethylamino-2-[2-(2,5-dimethyl-1-phenyl-3-pyrilyl)vinyl]-1-methyl-quinolinium pamoate. The pyrvinium pamoate that is an active ingredient for the anticancer agent and the pharmacological composition for anticancer activity reveals extremely high toxicity against glucose-starved in vivo cancer cells. In addition, the pyrvinium pamoate is already administered into human body as parasiticide whereby it can safely be given into human bodies as an anticancer agent or a pharmacological composition for antitumor activity in vivo.
