PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input device capable of rapidly and easily inputting a Japanese word of general notation including kana and kanji. SOLUTION: In this device, a first operation by a jog dial 11 is performed to select a character in order to all inputtable characters with a prescribed arrangement order, a second operation is performed to laterally rotate the jog dial 11 with click according to the section by the jog dial 11, and the input of the character selected by the first and second operations is determined by a click operation (third operation).
