IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS AND INTERMEDIATE TRANSFER BODY USED FOR THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a trouble due to such a failure that the conductive foreign matter enters a transfer nip area between an image carrier and an intermediate transfer body while suppressing the scattering of image materials on the intermediate transfer body. SOLUTION: As for the image forming apparatus for transferring an image formed on the image carrier 1 to a recording material 3 through the intermediate transfer body 2, the intermediate transfer body 2 is constituted of several layers (e.g. 4a to 4c), and the low microhardness layer 4b whose microhardness is lower than that of the surface layer 4a is arranged as the underlayer of the surface layer 4a. Besides, as for the intermediate transfer body 2 used for the image forming apparatus, the surface resistivity of the intermediate transfer body 2 is≥1013Ω/square, and also, the velocity (vb) of the intermediate transfer body 2 is made higher by≥1% than the velocity (vp) of the image carrier 1.
