PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the outer diameter of an electromagnetic switch including a connecting member (a flange part 21 and a holder part) for connecting a plunger 14 and a first movable contact, and to prevent rotation of the connecting member and the plunger 14 without adding parts. SOLUTION: A switch case 18 of the electromagnetic switch has a cylindrical wall part 18a surrounding the outer periphery of an excitation coil. The cross-sectional form of the cylindrical wall part 18a is formed to be an elliptic in shape. The wall faces opposing each other in the short radial direction of the cylindrical wall part 18a has flat faces 18c which are substantially parallel. The plunger 14 has a flange part 21 fixed thereto, with both arm parts 21a connected to the holder part on both outsides in the short radial direction of the switch case 18, and the holder part maintains the first movable contact. This structure allows to shorten the outer diameter of the electromagnetic switch in the short radial direction of the switch case 18 including the connecting member. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
