PREFORM FOR PLASTIC OPTICAL MEMBER, ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD, AND PLASTIC OPTICAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of stably manufacturing a preform for a plastic optical member having uniform refractive index gradation profile and having a less variation in the diameter of a core portion. SOLUTION: The method is provided of manufacturing the preform for the plastic optical member having a graded-index core portion of which the refractive index is continuously decrease from its center to the radius direction and a cladding portion having a refractive index smaller than that of the center part of the core by 0.03 or more. The method comprises: a first step for manufacturing a polymer hollow tube for cladding portion in which the inner wall of the polymer hollow tube has an arithmetic mean roughness of below 0.4μm; and a second process for polymerizing a polymerizable composition in the hollow portion of the hollow tube to thereby form the core portion.
