PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reproducing device for a medium which can display information indicating contents stored on media such as a CD or a DVD, in a short period of time after the medium is loaded, requires a small amount of power and have a long service life. SOLUTION: A wireless IC tag (110), on which a designated code is stored in advance, is embedded into a medium (100) such as the CD or the DVD. The medium is arranged with a communication means (240) for reading a code from the wireless IC tag, a generating means (280) for data like a table, for example, associated with the code read from the wireless IC tag and the information read from the medium, and a storage means (281) like a nonvolatile semiconductor memory for storing the data generated. When the medium is loaded for the first time, the information indicating the contents is read from the medium, the data is generated and registered on the storage means. When the same medium is loaded once again, the storage means is searched using the code read from the wireless IC tag, so that the information indicating a corresponding content is identified and displayed.
