SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR REDUCING SPLICE LOSS OF OPTICAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing a splice loss by using a super short length bridge fiber for splicing first and second fibers having mode field diameters different from each other together. SOLUTION: The super short length bridge fiber has a mode field diameter intermediate between the mode field diameters of the first and the second fibers. A first end part of the super short length bridge fiber is spliced to a lead end part of the first fiber at a first splice point. The bridge fiber is successively cloven at a point away from the first splice point by a prescribed distance. A lead end part of the second fiber is successively spliced to the cloven end part of the bridge fiber at a second splice point.
