PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device capable of writing optimally in compliance with a disk without updating firmware. SOLUTION: The optical disk device distinguishes kinds of optical disks, and performs writing according to a write strategy suitable for the distinguished optical disk. The device is connected to a host computer through a prescribed interface means, and write strategy information most suitable for each disk by each disk vendor is memorized in the host computer. The device is characterized by having a write strategy information receiving means to receive information on the write strategy output from the host computer through the interface means, and a data writing means which performs writing of data to the optical disk according to the received write strategy information.
