PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply and selectively producing 1,3-adamantanediol in high yield. SOLUTION: Ozone gas is blown into a solution containing adamantane dissolved in a solvent such as dichloromethane which is a good solvent for both the adamantane and 1-adamantanol or the ozone gas is blown into a solution containing the adamantane dissolved in a poor solvent for the 1-adamantanol such as hexane and the good solvent for the 1-adamantanol is added to the reaction system. Ozone oxidation is carried out so as not to deposit the 1-adamantanol which is a reaction intermediate during reaction. Thereby, the 1,3-adamantanediol is produced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
