PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of easily manufacturing aqueous silica sol useful for the application in the field of ceramics, catalysts and abrasives for the electronic industry, using an aqueous solution of alkali metal silicate as a raw material and having a little quantity of alkali metal, particularly sodium. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the low alkali metal-containing aqueous silica sol includes a step (a) of heating ammonia-stabilized aqueous silica sol containing a colloidal silica particle in which the alkali metal is incorporated at 98-150°C and keeping the temperature for 1-12 hr and a step (b) of exchanging the anion in the heat treated ammonia-stabilized aqueous silica sol obtained in the process (a).
