PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize stable autofocus operation by restraining influence exerted on the autofocus operation by another object different from a main object present in the periphery part of a range-finding frame. SOLUTION: The imaging unit is equipped with an imaging device 2 generating an image pickup signal by photoelectrically converting light from the subject, extraction parts 12 and 13 extracting a specified frequency component from a signal component corresponding to a focus detection area within an image plane picked up by the imaging device, weighting circuits 15 and 16 performing the weighting of the specified frequency component extracted by the extraction parts, and a driving part 6 moving a focus lens to a focusing position based on a signal weighted by the weighting circuits.
