COMPENSATION OF FIXED PATTERN NOISE OF LOW MEMORY REQUIREMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for compensating the fixed pattern noise (FPN) of a digital image. SOLUTION: FPN compensation is based on processing that is performed during image forming. The FPN is defined as a fixed pattern which is observed in an offset of each pixel. The FPN is non-correlative noise but has a statistical distribution of scaling suited to all images. The method is provided with steps of: providing a nonvolatile memory 5, a processing device 4, a calibration frame and an image sensor 2; using the calibration frame to calculate FPN data for each sensor; storing measured FPN data; extracting the FPN data for each picked-up picture; and applying the FPN data to each pixel of the picked-up picture in order to compensate the FPN.
