PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine capable of attaining good balancing between high energy efficiency by power generation using a turbo charger with a generator and high fuel economy performance by lean burn. SOLUTION: This control device for the internal combustion engine comprises the turbo charger 11 disposed associated with the internal combustion engine1; the generator 11b for generating power by rotating a turbine/compressor 11a of the turbo charger 11 by an exhaust gas flow; and generator control means 16, 21 for controlling power generation of the generator 11b. When an air/fuel ratio after the power generation by the generator 11b is at and less than a prescribed air/fuel ratio (or it is predicted to be at and less than the prescribed air/fuel ratio), the generator control means 16, 21 decrease the amount of the power generation of the generator 11b.
