The variable drive gearing couples a drive input shaft (7) rotated by the pedal cranks (9) to the bicycle chain ring (13) with the drive ratio varied in dependence on the drive torque exerted on the drive input shaft, the bicycle pedal bearing sleeve (1) acting as the outer housing (2) of the variable drive gearing. The latter has a planetary gearing with at least 2 sunwheels, selectively brough into operation in dependence on the exerted torque. An Independent claim for a bicycle provided with a variable drive gearing is also included.
