PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fixing method, with which the fixing time of a color thermosensitive printer is reduced. SOLUTION: In a color thermosensitive recording paper 10, its thermal recording and its main fixing are executed during its maximum speed conveyance towards a first direction and its re-fixing is applied during its conveyance towards a second direction. Ultraviolet lamps 21a, 21b, 22a and 22b are fully lit during its main fixing and its re-fixing. During the conveyance towards the first direction, a microcomputer 40 brings in measured illumination values output from an illuminance sensor 25 at fixed intervals of time so as to calculate an ultraviolet-light irradiation dose per every imaginary range, which is set by imaginarily dividing the surface of the color thermosensitive recording paper sheet 10 towards its relative moving direction, in order to store the dose in an irradiation dose memory 43. A speed setting circuit 44 reads the ultraviolet-light irradiation dose per every imaginary range from the irradiation dose memory 43 so as to calculate a carrying speed for every imaginary range by calculating a filling-up ultraviolet-light irradiation dose. A carrying motor controlling circuit 45 controls the rotation of a carrying motor 19 in every imaginary range in order to change the carrying speed of the paper sheet. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
