PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize high density in a recording medium and improve reliability of the recording medium by increasing storage capacity per a recording medium and realizing ROM formation on a part of the recording medium. SOLUTION: On a nonmagnetic substrate 1, a soft magnetic backing layer 2, an undercoat layer 3, a first magnetic recording layer 5, a nonmagnetic separation layer 6, a second magnetic recording layer 7, a protection film 8 and a liquid lubricant layer 9 are laminated in this order. The magnetic recording layer comprises the first magnetic recording layer 5 and the second magnetic recording layer 7 via the nonmagnetic separation layer 6 and has a two-layered structure magnetically separated in the film-layer direction. A material whose Hc is high at a room temperature and rapidly drops with an increasing temperature is used in the first magnetic recording layer 5. The nonmagnetic separation layer 6 helps the easy-to-magnetize axis of the magnetic recording layer located at an upper layer is directed in the vertical direction against the surface of the medium, and cuts the exchange interaction between the first magnetic recording layer 5 and the second magnetic recording layer 7.
