PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve identification performance in a pattern identifying device for identifying a pattern to be identified based on an image to be identified obtained by an imaging means with a coin or the like as the target of identification. SOLUTION: This pattern identifying device is provided with an illuminating means for irradiating the target to be identified passing a passage with lights and an imaging means for receiving reflected or transmitted lights from the target of identification for identifying the pattern of the target to be identified based on an image obtained by the imaging means. An imaging means 16 is constituted of an image sensor 26 for outputting a partial image for reading out the image data of a specific area 66 in a short period.
