PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video digest generating apparatus capable of generating a digest in response to each program and improving the utility value of the digest by a user.

SOLUTION: The video digest generating apparatus is provided with: a video recording means 11 for recording a video image of a program received from a broadcast station 2 on a storage medium 14; a network connection means 15 for acquiring a digest generating program for generating a digest of a video image of a program from a network 3; a program performance means 12 for performing the acquired digest generating program; and a reproducing means 13 for reproducing the video image of the recorded program on a video display apparatus 4 according to the digest generating program performed by the program performance means. Since the digest generating program is generated by each program, the digest generating program can generate the digest in response to contents of each program.
