<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rationally constructed TN liquid crystal display device in which no unintended off-segment visualization takes place, and a wide viewing angle and high contrast are provided. <P>SOLUTION: In the normally black mode TN liquid crystal display device 100, the wide viewing angle is obtained by setting a twist angle θ of liquid crystal molecules 50A to 120-140° with no unintended off-segment visualization, and the high contrast is obtained by setting a wavelength of incident light 10 to 450-500 nm and retardation of a liquid crystal part to 0.4-0.5, setting the wavelength of the incident light 10 to 500-550 nm and the retardation of the liquid crystal part to 0.5-0.58 and setting the wavelength of the incident light 10 to 550-600 nm and the retardation of the liquid crystal part to 0.58-0.67 with no unintended off-segment visualization. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
