PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dephosphorizing method for dephosphorizing molten pig iron at high efficiency, while reducing the amount of fluoride in slag and inhibiting slag foaming. SOLUTION: The method dephosphorizes the molten pig iron containing 0.3 mass% or more Si in a converter-type furnace with the use of a slag-making material containing CaO as a main component and oxygen, wherein the average particle diameter of the slag-making material is controlled to 10 mm or less, and the basicity of slag "CaO/SiO<SB>2</SB>" after dephosphorization, is controlled to 2.0 or less by mass%. Preferably, an Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>content in the slag is controlled to 4 mass% or less, and a CaF<SB>2</SB>content to 5 mass% or less. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
