PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cellulose ester film enabling increase of production of a protective film for polarizing plates by improving so-called winding quality of the cellulose ester film used for the protective film for polarizing plates and particularly preventing occurrence of sticking trouble of films and floating trouble between films in winding of film in order to correspond to increase of production of a liquid crystal display element, namely the polarizing plate. SOLUTION: The cellulose ester film satisfies the formula: 0.75≤Rt(a)/äd(a)×(1.2-0.005)×d(a)}≤0.92 when retardation value in thickness direction of a film in a base condition is defined as Rt(a) and film thickness is defined as d(a) and satisfies the formula: 0.75≤Rt(b)/äd(b)×(1.2-0.005)×d(b)}≤0.92 when retardation value in the thickness direction of the film after carrying out temperature control and moisture control of the film at high temperature and high humidity is defined as Rt(b) and the film thickness is defined as d(b).
