PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polar group-containing vinyl compound/olefin copolymer high in the content of polar group-containing vinyl compound units, wherein the content is controlled as desired, and to provide a method for efficiently producing such a copolymer. SOLUTION: The polar group-containing vinyl compound/olefin copolymer is composed of constituent units derived from a 2-25C olefin and constituent units derived from a polar group-containing vinyl compound of general formula(I):X<SP>2</SP>CH=C(R)X<SP>1</SP>( wherein, X<SP>1</SP>is a polar group-bearing group; and X<SP>2</SP>is H or a polar group-bearing group ), wherein the content of the olefin units is 0.01-49mol% on the molar basis of the total constituent units of the copolymer.
