<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting or separating liver stem cells from a mass of cells in a fetal liver, an adult liver under regeneration, etc. <P>SOLUTION: A gene of an Itm2A protein (Integral membrane protein 2A) is specifically and highly expressed in the liver stem cells in the fetal liver and the adult liver under regeneration. Further, it is confirmed that the gene comprises a type 2 membrane protein. Therefore, the liver stem cells are detectable or separable by using the Itm2A protein or a mRNA encoding the protein as an indicator. Thus, the method for detecting or separating the liver stem cells comprises detecting or separating the liver stem cells in a sample separated from a living body to the outside by using the Itm2A protein or the mRNA encoding the protein as the indicator. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
