PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fuel economy more, in regard to the neutral control.

SOLUTION: This controller for an automatic transmission includes a G sensor for detecting a grade of a road surface, and an ECU 1000 for outputting a command for releasing an input clutch 310 to start the neutral control to a linear solenoid 1220 when the grade of the road surface detected by the G sensor is the predetermined value or less and the neutral control starting condition is satisfied and for stopping output of the command for releasing the input clutch 310 by comparing the grade of the road surface detected by the G sensor with the predetermined value after outputting the command to the linear solenoid 1220 and when the grade of the road surface is larger than the predetermined value.
