VARIABLE DISPERSION COMPENSATING MODULE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the difficulty in arbitrarily changing dispersion characteristics for the technique in which a resistor film, that changes electric resistivity in the longitudinal direction of an optical fiber, is arranged and a chirp Bragg grating is heated through energizing by electricity.

SOLUTION: A plurality of temperature adjusting elements 13 and 14 are arranged in the longitudinal direction of a chirp fiber Bragg grating 12 formed in an optical fiber 11 to independently conduct temperature adjustment by contacting top and bottom or left and right of the fiber 11. By heating the fiber 11 employing the plurality of the elements 13 and 14 which are capable of independently adjusting temperature, temperature gradient is provided to the grating 12 and the dispersion characteristics are arbitrarily controlled.
