摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device for which cost increase is suppressed and with which a residual image in moving picture display can be reduced and the display quality (in particular, the display quality of a moving picture) can be improved, a lighting device to be used therefor and a method of driving the lighting device. SOLUTION: When display elements scanned at the same moment are classified as a display element group, in a liquid crystal panel 3 with a plurality of the display elements, the respective display elements are installed so as to be grouped into the respective display element groups. A plurality of fluorescent tubes 13 respectively having respective electrodes 52 on the outside to form an electric field to form and excite inner plasma are installed for the respective display element groups. An invertor driving circuit 14 to generate electric power for the electric field formation is installed. A high voltage withstanding switching circuit 15 for controlling light emission of the respective fluorescent tubes 13 by connecting and disconnecting power supply from the invertor driving circuit 14 to the respective electrodes 52 is installed.
