PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing paper, with which paper layer strength at the surface side in which water drainage of a paper web having imbalanced water drainage balance between the face side and the back side is insufficient is improved and the paper web is threaded at a high speed and a paper machine therefor. SOLUTION: The method for producing paper has a process for nipping both the surface sides of the paper web and draining water, a process for nipping one surface side of the paper web and draining water, a process for nipping the other surface side and draining water and a process for bringing the paper web into contact with a transporting member and transporting the paper web. The paper web is drained, dewatered and dried uniformly on the face side and the back side by the constitution. Consequently, high-quality paper having improved paper layer strength and controlling occurrence of vessel pick is produced.
