SOLUTION: This controller for a friction engagement device formed by arranging a fluid transmitting device and a friction engagement device in parallel with each other on an output side of a motor for a vehicle and having a torque capacity to be changed to a capacity corresponding to a first range in the case of a car speed control request corresponding to the first range and to be changed to a capacity corresponding to a second torque capacity in the case of the car speed control request corresponding to the second range is provided with a determining means for determining whether the car speed control request is changed to the predetermined value within the first range or not, a comparing means for comparing a physical quantity related to the real car speed with the predetermined reference value, and a torque capacity control means for setting the torque capacity of the friction engagement device to the torque capacity corresponding to the first range or the second range on the basis of a result of the determination by the comparing means.
