PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording device which implements recording at a low cost and at a high speed even in a two-way printing mode, reduces an influence of mist of a reaction liquid, and achieves recording of high-grade images, and to provide an ink jet recording method. SOLUTION: The ink jet recording method carries out recording by performing main scanning of a recording head in the direction that intersects the direction of an array of ejecting ports. The recording head for use in the method is configured in the following manner. (A) The array of the color ink ejecting ports corresponding to a plurality of color inks is arranged along a main scanning direction, and the array of the ink ejecting ports corresponding to respective colors is arranged so that the respective ink colors are symmetrically arranged with respect to its center axis. (B) A reaction liquid ejecting port array is shifted in a carrying direction from the array of the color ink ejecting ports in order to prevent the reaction liquid ejecting port array corresponding to the reaction liquid from overlapping the array of the color ink ejecting ports in the main scanning direction.
