PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antioxidant having excellent antioxidant performance with high safety permitting addition to foods or the like and with wide application ranges, without affecting taste and feeling in use, and to provide foods and cosmetics obtained by using the same.

SOLUTION: The antioxidant includes the tannin originating from calcinated chestnut skins. The foods and cosmetics includes the tannin originating from calcinated chestnut skins.
