PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector having high performance in spite of being small-sized and inexpensive. SOLUTION: The projector is provided with an optical addressing liquid crystal 20 whose optical characteristics change at an incidence part of addressing light for writing, a writing part 30 making the addressing light incident in the addressing liquid crystal 20 and scanning the optical addressing liquid crystal 20 with the addressing light, a sequential illumination part 40 time sequentially and repetitively making color divided read out light of each color incident in the optical addressing liquid crystal 20 and a controlling device 60 controlling writing timing by the writing part 30 and reading timing by the illumination part 40.
