<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner having a sharp negative charge amount distribution capable of forming visible images having good sharpness over a prolonged period of time, adaptable to a low temperature fixing system while retaining cleanability, having good anti-offset properties, and causing neither contamination of a fixing device nor stain of images. <P>SOLUTION: The negative charge type toner is obtained by dissolving or dispersing a toner composition containing a toner binder resin comprising a modified polyester resin (i) capable of reacting with active hydrogen in an organic solvent, dispersing the resulting solution or dispersion in an aqueous medium containing fine resin particles, reacting it with a crosslinking agent and/or an extender, and removing the solvent from the resulting dispersion.
