PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide notice of cleaning or replacement of a cutter for cutting and separating a printed recording medium at an adequate time. SOLUTION: A kind of a recording medium to be used is inputted (S1) and a threshold value T0 for judging a time of replacing the cutter and a threshold value L0 for judging a time of cleaning the cutter are set corresponding to the kind (S3, S4). The cumulative number of times that the cutting is performed by means of the cutter is counted (S5, S6) and the notice of recommending a user to operate cleaning or replacement of the cutter is provided based on the cumulative number of times (S8, S12).
