PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that securely removes transfer residual toner having both polarities that is present on a photoreceptor. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a brush 5 which is brought into contact with an image carrier 1 after a toner image is transferred to a body to be transferred and to which two or more kinds of bristles 15 and 15 of different resistance values are flocked. The image forming apparatus also includes a voltage applying part 17 which applies an alternating voltage to the brush 5. The voltage applying part 17 applies the alternating voltage in which the alternation of positive and negative polarities is repeated.
