Production of an inula extract comprises drying and pulverizing inula plant parts, adding an alcohol, aldehyde and/or ketone solvent, incubating the mixture for 1-10 days with occasional shaking, and filtering the extract. Independent claims are also included for: (1) an inula extract produced as above; (2) controlling and/or preventing attack by insect pests on plants by contacting the insects with the inula extract.
