A house communications and automation system (1) has data network nodes (2-n) with common routing of real time optical data bus and mains power supply connections (3) for house automation actuators and sensors linked to a microcontroller. Includes Independent claims for PHY (Physical Chip Layer ) IEEE 1394 bus interfaces and universal protocol handling including also radio, wireless LAN (Local Area Network), Hiper Lan 2, Bluetooth and all cellular radio protocols (GSM (Global System for Mobiles), GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), UMTS (Universal Mobile Telephone System) , S/PDIF, USB (Universal Serial Bus) and Ethernet interfaces.
