<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a print controller of a thermal printer in which print speed is prevented from lowering especially in case of continuous printing. <P>SOLUTION: An overcoat register 38 is recorded with gray level data in the case of printing on an overcoat layer, and a switching register 39 is recorded with data for switching the print data, e.g. data of "1" or "0". When print data of yellow (Y), magenta (M) and cyan (C) is printed, e.g. selectors 40 and 42 are selected by supplying the data "0" from the register 39 and then printing of yellow (Y), magenta (M) and cyan (C) is carried out. In the case of print processing of the overcoat layer, e.g. a selector 41 is selected by supplying the data "1" from the switching register 39 and then printing on the overcoat layer is carried out.
