<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To broaden a visual angle, particularly downward viewing angle, without thickening the liquid crystal display device, causing little lowering of contrast due to the change of the visual angle, shade change, monochrome reverse or hue variation. <P>SOLUTION: This polarizer has a first transparent protective film consisting of a cellulose acetate film, a polarizing film, a second transparent protective film, and a light diffusion layer in this order. Re retardation value and Rth retardation value of the cellulose acetate film of the first protective film are adjusted to 20-70 nm, and 100-500 nm, respectively. The light diffusion layer is formed as a layer having translucent particles dispersed within the transparent resin, with a refractive index different from that of the transparent resin. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
