<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exhibit the maximum carry for every number count. <P>SOLUTION: In this iron golf club set 1, a head 2 is composed of a face plate 2A and a head body 2B provided with a face receiving part supporting the peripheral edge part of the face plate 2A around an opening part. The face plate 2A includes a thin part 4 having the minimum thickness and a thick part 5 having a thickness larger than that of the thin part 4 in a free bending area 6, the back of which faces to the opening part. In the gold club set 1, in the reference state where the club is placed at a regulated lie angle and at a loft angle on the horizontal plane, the horizontal distance Xi along the face between the face center FC and the center Z of figure of the thin part 4 satisfies following formulas (1) and (2), wherein the horizontal distance Xi is negative when the center of figure is located rather closer to the toe side than the center of face, and positive when it is located on the heel side. And the reference numeral i is a natural number of 1 to n attached to the club of the set in the order of increasing the loft angle.
